The Door
2 Kings
4:1-7
1 A certain woman of the wives
of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha, saying, “Your servant my
husband is dead, and you know that your servant feared the Lord. And the
creditor is coming to take my two sons to be his slaves.” 2 So Elisha
said to her, “What shall I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house?”
And she said, “Your maidservant has nothing in the house but a jar of oil.”
3 Then he said, “Go, borrow vessels from everywhere, from all your
neighbors—empty vessels; do not gather just a few. 4 And when
you have come in, you shall shut the door behind you and your sons; then pour
it into all those vessels, and set aside the full ones.” 5 So she went
from him and shut the door behind her and her sons, who brought the
vessels to her; and she poured it out. 6 Now it came
to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said to her son, “Bring me
another vessel.” And he said to her, “There is not another vessel.” So the
oil ceased. 7 Then she came and told the man of God. And he said,
“Go, sell the oil and pay your debt; and you and your sons live on
the rest.”
Time after time many of us have
had our backs against the wall and have felt completely helpless. We’ve had
many thoughts during the night, who can we ask for help or where do we go for
the help that we need? Some people turn to social services to see if they have
any aid or support that they could give to them, others turn to their families,
and some don’t do anything and hope for the best. But when we follow Christ, we
must turn to Him first.
The fear that grips our hearts
with worry can seem impossible to come out of these circumstances without
feeling some type of defeat. Our thoughts will play with our minds and
emotions. That is the human reaction and maybe how many might be handling their
issues, dilemmas, and troubles.
However, deep within our
subconscious mind there is always a glimmer of hope. It may come in a gentle
whisper that points us to look in a different direction or inspire us to
believe there’s hope no matter what we may be feeling or dealing with. We must
pay close attention because this is the Holy Spirit speaking to us. He is
revealing a message to help, comfort, or teach us something. As we yield to the
promptings of the Holy Spirit our answers, breakthroughs, victories, and
miracles are not far away.
When moments like this happens, we must
fast and pray and cry out to God. There is nothing too hard for God. We must be
persistent in our petitions and dig deep into how He moved in the lives of His
people the children of Israel. He is the same God. Hebrews 13:5-8 Let
your conduct be without covetousness; be content with
such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you
nor forsake you.” 6 So we may boldly say:
“The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?”
7 Remember those who rule over you, who have spoken the word of God
to you, whose faith follow, considering the outcome
of their conduct. 8 Jesus Christ is the same
yesterday, today, and forever. When we come to Him, we must have faith and
believe He is the only one who can change the hearts and minds of men to move
on our behalf and fix it for us.
Some people panic when they are faced with
troubles and run away from God. But that’s the enemies plan to frustrate and
cause confusion to make it so that the person who is not rooted in the Word of
the Lord to be tossed and torn in their minds. A double minded man will not
receive what he asks for because his actions are not revealing the steps that
we walk by faith. We must believe that God is able to bring it to pass for us.
Next activate our faith by putting in the work, pray and focus on the outcome
of receiving it by faith from God.
Our faith is being tested when we fall
into various trials, tests, and tribulations. The devil doesn’t want us to
fight back when life gets hard for us. He laughs and temps us to stop trying to
activate our faith and discourages us to stop trusting in God. Our problems are
no match for God because He already have the answers and knows the end of a
thing before He creates it.
There is nothing that slips by Him, nor
does anything come by surprise when it hits our lives. That is how our minds
think and processes things. Satan torments us with all kinds of pettiness,
works on our emotions and thoughts. But saints we must be vigilant and sober
minded because the minute we encounter hard times and suffering he sends his
fiery darts and throws all kinds of kindling into the fire e.g., fear and
doubt.
If we would take some time to journal our
journey with God, it would help us to see how our minds think and show us a
better picture of God’s hand being involved in helping us to move along our
journey. He’s answering our prayers, granting us miracles, breakthroughs,
turning defeat into victories, and healing our bodies and restoring
relationships that may have caused us trauma, unforgiveness, arrested
development in our ability to believe in ourselves and teaching us to always
trust Him.
Many of us tend to forget what happened
last year to the present of what was the last thing that God did for us.
Because we’re not processing the things that we’re experiencing nor
internalizing the lessons, tests, and other valuable things that God did and
how He revealed the steps to us to achieve our answered prayers. We’re so in a hurry
to live our lives. Tomorrow hasn’t even gotten here and yet many are making
five year and eight-year plans. James 4:14-15 whereas you do not know
what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It
is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes
away. 15 Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills,
we shall live and do this or that.” Proverbs 27:1 Do not boast about
tomorrow, For you do not know what a day may bring forth.
Jesus is the answer to everything. First,
He is the one who is providing for us, answering our prayers, and healing us.
These are some of His benefits and mercies that we receive daily. His Word is
the foundation that we must build our hope and faith on. The Word of the Lord
is our food that we must eat from daily to understand how we are to live and
walk our journey. If we’re not taking the time to learn about Jesus and we only
turn to Him for stuff and our troubles, then we have a warped mind.
The cycle of life for many are to drink
and eat and be merry. They are only concern about the cares of this life.
They’re not paying attention to their ways and going along with the masses of
what other folks are doing or saying. This kind of life is not building on the
foundation of Christ. Because there is no service to God in it nor is there any
fruit of the spirit that glorifies God. Yet, there are so many who consider
their service to serving God by going to church and paying tithes. That is
tradition and religion. God is Spirit and He is an intimate God who personally
is offering more to the hungry hearts who wants to know Him. Revelation
3:19-20 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore
be zealous and repent. 20 Behold, I stand at the door and
knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to
him and dine with him, and he with Me.
Time is winding down for many and they
still have not surrendered to coming to Jesus. Remember every time we are
stricken with pain, trouble, and trials it has to pass by God first before it
touches our lives. But for many He must put them through the fires and many
afflictions to draw them to Him. They will eventually get tired and wake up to
answer the call by allowing Christ to enter in so that He can reveal Himself to
them in a personal way. He is an intimate God and is personally involved in our
lives.
Now is the time to accept Jesus as Lord.
There’s no more looking back at the past. This is where we surrender all and
let Him in so that our souls will be saved, and our sins forgiven. Beloved this
moment is not promised to all because everyone will not accept Christ for many
have rejected Him. Today is an invitation will you the reader and listener
accept Christ? There is a day of judgment waiting for every soul that lived.
Behold this is the knock the time is now will you answer the call?
