Wisdom

Matthew 7:24-29

24 “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. 26 “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 27 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.” 28 And so it was, when Jesus had ended these sayings, that the people were astonished at His teaching, 29 for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

We must trust the Word of the Lord to guide and help us through life. There are so many people who have fallen and been destroyed because they listened to ungodly counsel. What happened to them could have been a different outcome if they had not allowed someone else’s opinion to sway them. In most cases, it’s our pride that holds us back from seeking godly counsel or good advice. But when it comes to our lives and choosing the best for us, we must pray and ask God for wisdom.

He knows everything because He’s Omniscient. How so, He created everything in the heavens, earth and universe, things visible and invisible and every living thing. We will turn to Him when we get tired of repeating the same mistakes, failing test after test, starting over continuously, deficit to crumbs, etc.  Let’s face it there is something about this picture that tells us that there is something wrong. We must have missed a step or two to have gotten off track, because there is no way that anyone would be satisfied with living a defeated life.

It’s wise to say and understand that we don’t know everything. There are some very knowledgeable and wise people in the world. However, this is not the case for the majority. The Lord does bless people with wisdom when they pray and ask. Because it comes from above and there is no ulterior motive to cause no harm to anyone. He is gracious and merciful to give it to us when we acknowledge Him for it. James 3:17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.

During life we will all have a plethora of tests, trials, tribulations, lessons, and experiences, etc. But depending on how well we listened to wisdom and have learned some things, we could share these things to help open the eyes of others, so they do not fall into those same ditches and traps we’ve experienced.

When we turn to our friends, family, and close acquaintances for advice, we must be careful about what we share and pray about the information that they are giving us. If it doesn’t set well with us we must not ignore the signs. Because some people are not wise at all, some people will only tell us what we want to hear or will say the opposite of what we need to hear. So, I’m saying that they may mean well and have some good advice that we could use. But we still must be discerning about the opinions of men and pray to God for direction. Because there are low key envious and jealous people that will give others fake advice and mislead them because they want your life, blessings, and opportunities. Our peers will probably not have the wisdom to help us because of their lack of experience in life. Some young people are wise and have been given the gift of wisdom early. It’s kind of rare now a days to find an older person who might have the wisdom to help us because they have walked down the road of life longer than we have.

The Lord knows the hearts and motives of men. Our wisdom must solely come from the Word of God and the Holy Spirit. It’s wise to keep a lot of things to ourselves because it helps us to set personal boundaries with people and this includes family. Many people chose not to seek wisdom before they told their dreams and secrets. Unfortunately, in most instances this creates spiritual warfare and brings attacks against our lives and have been the downfall for many. James 3:14-16 But if you have bitter envy and self-seeking in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth. 15 This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic. 16 For where envy and self seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there. Therefore, we must not lean on our own understanding, or follow the advice of men and worldly wisdom. Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.

Some people are blessed to have a person in their lives who has godly wisdom. That person is a light that the Lord has placed in the earth to point others to Christ. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of all truth who teaches men in how to gain knowledge, wisdom and understanding. We must first have godly fear and reverence for the Lord. As we obey the Word and build an intimate relationship with God our lives will bear good fruit and our words will become seasoned in the things of the Lord. Proverbs 9:10 “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

There are two roads to choose in life pertaining to wisdom i.e., accepting God’s wisdom leads us to eternal life and rejecting God’s wisdom leads us to eternal death.  Choosing God’s wisdom helps to develop our minds for the right way of living, following order, accepting correction and instructions, obeying the Word and Holy Spirit. This yields a life of peace, contentment, love, long life, success, blessings, and honor. The Lord bestows His grace and wisdom upon the souls who take this path. This road leads to everlasting life and lights the pathway for others to find Christ. Their days are counted as blessed because they have chosen to seek wisdom from the Lord. Psalm 90:12 So teach us to number our days, That we may gain a heart of wisdom.

The broad road leads many to destruction who follow and listen to their pride. They chose not to heed the Word of the Lord for godly counsel and instructions, but desire to go their own way. Proverbs 14:12 There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death. Proverbs 30:12 There is a generation that is pure in its own eyes, Yet is not washed from its filthiness. These people are chasing after lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes and the pride of life. This lust cannot be quenched nor satisfied on its own. People spend years living like this wasting precious time on their unfruitful, unprofitable, and sinful things. They love the darkness because it covers up their wrongdoing. But no one escapes who chooses this path according to Proverbs 1:28-32 “Then they will call on me, but I will not answer; They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me. 29 Because they hated knowledge And did not choose the fear of the Lord, 30 They would have none of my counsel And despised my every rebuke. 31 Therefore they shall eat the fruit of their own way, And be filled to the full with their own fancies. 32 For the turning away of the simple will slay them, And the complacency of fools will destroy them;

Today, we have the Books of Proverbs and Ecclesiastes, to study as the Holy Spirit teaches us wisdom. He will instruct us on when to apply it to our lives. He will bring the scriptures back to our memory. We must study these scriptures to develop our minds for living right. There are no excuses if we lack wisdom because God blessed King Solomon to leave us with this wealth of knowledge and wisdom to live godly. God is our ultimate source of wisdom. 1 Kings 3:7-13 Now, O Lord my God, You have made Your servant king instead of my father David, but I am a little child; I do not know how to go out or come in. 8 And Your servant is in the midst of Your people whom You have chosen, a great people, too numerous to be numbered or counted. 9 Therefore give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?” 10 The speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing. 11 Then God said to him: “Because you have asked this thing, and have not asked long life for yourself, nor have asked riches for yourself, nor have asked the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern justice, 12 behold, I have done according to your words; see, I have given you a wise and understanding heart, so that there has not been anyone like you before you, nor shall any like you arise after you. 13 And I have also given you what you have not asked: both riches and honor, so that there shall not be anyone like you among the kings all your days.

The Word

When your eyes become open

You will be able to receive

The messages that I want to share

Living by sight can be deceiving

It is written in the Word

For we walk by faith

Lean not to your own understanding

Wisdom is greater than wealth

Hold to such treasure

We cannot see our Creator

For He instructs us to obey

The Word was created to lead

Surrender and live your life for God

He sends forth His words

Every word spoken will prosper

For there are great rewards to come

God is the Word and the author

The light of the world leading to all truth
